Briggs & Stratton P3000i Inverter Generator Review

Briggs & Stratton P3000i Inverter Generator Review

20th Jun 2019

This new portable inverter generator from Briggs & Stratton is rated at 3KVA, with a continuous output of 2600W. Importantly, the Briggs & Stratton P3000i is a inverter generator so it produces a pure sine wave electricity that's recommended for use with sensitive electronic appliances. Briggs & Stratton is known worldwide for its small quality petrol lawnmower engine range made in America, but this generator isn't manufactured in America, but in China, to Briggs & Stratton specifications.

In size / output terms the Briggs & Stratton P3000i Inverter Generator will compete against Honda’s EU30iU Handy model and Yamaha’s EF3000iSE model, but with a retail price of almost half of these main competitors.

The Briggs & Stratton P3000i Inverter Generator comes with two wheels and pull-out 'drag' handles – like airline luggage – which making it very portable and compact for storage

The Briggs & Stratton P3000i Inverter Generator comes with everything needed to get it going, except petrol. In the box comes a 600ml bottle of engine oil and the funnel to add it, plus a small tool kit with the screwdriver required to remove the side service panel to reach the oil filler.

The front panel ont he Briggs & Stratton P3000i has a pair of conventional 240V 15-amp outlets, a 12V socket and 5V USB charging outlet. There’s also a port to allow two generators to be run in parallel.

A Briggs & Stratton 'StatStation' is a centrally-located LCD screen that displays a variety of information: a load monitor function displays the output wattage of all outlets and the percentage of generator load; an hour meter records total engine hours run and a maintenance reminder tells you when it's time to change the air filter, engine oil and spark plug.

There is also a light for normal operation and warning lights for overload and low oil level.

The Briggs & Stratton P3000i operates with 'PowerSmart Mode' on or off. PowerSmart determines engine speed to suit the electrical load, so as you switch appliances on or off the engine speed rises or falls correspondingly. When PowerSmart is off the Briggs & Stratton P3000i runs constantly at governed speed and is most commonly used in conjunction with the supplied 12V cables, to charge a flat vehicle or house battery.

The Briggs & Stratton P3000i is capable of delivering 2600 running watts and 3000 starting watts. So, what does that mean for you? Well, quite a lot actually. For such a relativity small generator the Briggs & Stratton P3000i packs quite a punch. This generator is capable of powering small AC units, Microwaves, small refrigerators, big screen TVs (not all at the same time) as well as a few of smaller appliances and devices.

This generator won’t power your entire house in the event of an outage, but that’s not what it’s designed for. It’s built to bring power to your campsite, caravan, work-site or anywhere in-between.

Need more power? You can nearly double the power by connecting two P3000i generators together with Briggs & Stratton’s parallel kit.

There’s a lot to like about Briggs & Stratton’s new P3000i PowerSmart sine wave generator – especially given its attractive price. It is well designed and put together, while operationally it’s quick to set up and simple and quiet to operate.
