20th Jun 2019

Fuel Efficiency: The Honda EU20i can run up to 4 hours at full load and a impressive 15 hours at 1/4 load (with eco throttle mode on), while the Yamaha EF2000iS can run up to 4.2 hours on a full load and 10.5 hours at a 1/4 load (with eco throttle mode on). Both the Honda and Yamaha have a economy throttle mode, so the engine will adjust automatically to the required load, this enables great run time, and better fuel efficiency. The Yamaha EF2000iS has a slightly bigger fuel tank, with a 4.4 Litre tank compared to the Honda's 3.6 Litre Tank. With the Honda EU20i having a bigger rated engine compared to the Yamaha, with a smaller load (i.e 1/4 load) it is by far more fuel efficient, with up to a 15 hours run time over 10.5 hours with the Yamaha.

Weight: The Yamaha EF2000iS has a dry weight of 20kgs, which is 1 kilgram lighter than the Honda EU20i, which is 21kgs. As a dry weight, this does not include the weight of a full fuel tank, so given the Yamaha has a bigger fuel tank than the Honda, once the fuel tank is full, the weight of both models come back to being very much the same.

Noise Levels: Both the Honda EU20i and Yamaha EF2000iS are by far the quietest on the market, but thanks to Yamaha's noise reduction technology, there operating noise is super quiet at 51.5 DbA which is 2.5 DbA quieter than the Honda. (this rating is measured at 7 metres with a 1/4 load running)

Overall Size: While both the Honda EU20i and Yamaha EF2000iS look very similar in size the Yamaha EF2000iS actually measures up to be slightly smaller, with overall dimensions of 490 x 280 x 445mm compared to 510 x 290 x 425mm on the Honda EU20i.

Front Control Panel: The Honda EU20i has the majority of the controls on the end, with the choke and on / off switch on the side, while the Yamaha EF2000iS has all there controls on the one panel which is on the front side of the generator. One major difference is the Honda EU20i has two power outlets compared to the Yamaha's one. This doesn't mean you can only run one thing, a power board would be needed to run multiple appliances off the Yamaha. Both brands have clear controls and warning lights, which are easy to see and use.

Extra Features: The Yamaha EF2000iS has two main features that the Honda EU20i doesnt, these being a fuel gauge and separate fuel tap. The Yamaha fuel gauge is located on the top of the generator, near the fuel tank filler, this comes in very handy, to see how much fuel is left in your fuel tank. The separate fuel tap lets you turn off the fuel when the unit is still in operation to drain the remaining fuel in the carby, this is ideal for storage preparation. This can also be done on the Honda model, by locating the drain screw on the bottom of the carby, and drain the fuel manually from the drain pipe.

Servicing: Both the Honda EU20i and Yamaha EF2000iS are very easy to self service, the access to air filter, spark plug, and oil and easy to get to and can easily be maintained by yourself. Servicing these units are very important to make sure your generator will start first time every time.
